DAAD Arts Project 2024
‚ALL INCLUSIVE’
‘All Inclusive’ is a thematic publication exploring the changes in experience economy and the performance of the Self, particularly within the context of “branding.” The artists were interested in questioning how individual self-expression has shifted away from visual icons towards performatively signalling a lived experience by presenting collected experiences in video or images to manifest an identity: an ‘individual brand’.
Collaborators on the zine wrote about their work as professional and personal performers and how notions of “the brand” impact their practice. The name ‘All Inclusive’ was taken from the language of resorts and their promise of change (of the self and physically).
The choice of a salon as an event space drew upon the legacy of salons as places to exchange ideas and for personal transformation. It incorporated elements of a party, private art viewing and the space’s original purpose as a hair salon and aimed to question the relationship between performer and audience by involving visitors/viewers in the works.
The event was open to all with no age limit or ticketing. In the spotlight were artists working unconventionally or experimentally, such as artistic hair stylists, performative social media influencers, and clown performers.
